Taylor Swift!? AND Taylor Lautner!? OMG!!!

Everyone’s already been talking, blogging, writing and podcasting about the fact that Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black from the Twilight movies) was at Taylor Swift’s Chicago show on Friday (Oct. 9). But I was actually there, so at first I thought I’d give you my perspective on things. Then I thought, better yet, I’ll give you my teenage daughter’s perspective on things. So here’s a recap of the night from my 14-year-old’s point of view, as she was getting ready to meet Taylor Swift.

Maddy: Oh my God. She so tall. She is SO TALL. What’s that sign around her neck say? “Voice Rest Have a nice day? ” She can’t talk? Oh my God. Oh my God. What should I say to her? She’s so pretty. She’s being so nice to everyone. Oh my God. We’re next. WHAT AM I GOING TO SAY???

Me: Just say hi and tell her you love her music.

Maddy: Hi, Taylor. I love your music. Will you sign my jeans?

Swift: Thank you. Thanks for coming to the show. I’d love to sign your jeans. Hey, do you like Twilight?

Maddy: Duh. Totally.

Swift (whispering): Because Taylor Lautner is right behind you.

Maddy (frozen and freaking out and afraid to turn around): Here? Like in this room?

Swift: Yep. He’s right there. Go say hi.

Maddy: OH! MY! GOD!

Me: She said go say hi, so go say hi.

Maddy: Hi Taylor. Can we get our picture with you?

Lautner: Sure. I’d love to.

Me (whispering): Who is he again?

Maddy: Are you even serious? Do you even understand how cool this is? He is the most major movie star right now. He’s the werewolf from Twilight.

Her enthusiasm for the two Taylors never waned all night long. And when it came time for Swift to do a couple songs on a small stage toward the back of the arena, we sat by Swift’s mom to get a better view on “Hey Stephen” and “Fifteen.” But with Taylor Lautner sitting just a few feet from us, it was hard for Maddy to know where to look. At Swift, who was singing practically right to her? Or at Lautner, who couldn’t take his eyes off Swift?
