FanCountry News Jimmy Wayne's Brush With Death Sept. 2, 2008 — Jimmy Wayne has a Top 5 hit on his hands with "Do You Believe Me Now," but had things gone differently, he might never have been around to even hear the song, much less record it. Jimmy — GAC’s Artist of the Month for September — grew up in North Carolina, where his mother got married to an extremely violent man. The family had to run from the authorities when Jimmy was 13 years old, and at one point, his stepfather tried to kill him. "We were sitting in the car, and he held this gun to my head and pulled the trigger," Jimmy told The Tennessean. "When he did, I moved his hand and he shot a hole inside the car. That was the lifestyle we lived as long as I can remember." Jimmy ended up in the foster care system and was raised by an elderly couple that helped him come to terms with an extraordinarily difficult early life. He’s now on good terms with his mom, who is no longer involved with the dangerous stepdad, and he’s understandably in awe of the 180-degree turn his personal journey has taken. "It's sometimes surreal because you wonder, 'Am I really that person?' " he said. "You look at yourself and you think about all the stuff that's happened and where you are now, and you think, 'Man, I'm probably the luckiest person in the world.' At the same time, I really can't believe it." For more info check out GACTV.com Joe Nichols Joins Hall of Fame Sept. 2, 2008 — What’s a guy gotta do to get a hall-of-fame plaque? In Arkansas, it helps to be Joe Nichols. Known for the hits "What’s A Guy Gotta Do" and "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," Joe is one of several acts slated for induction in the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame in Hot Springs on Nov. 15. The hall "belongs to all the people of Arkansas," Don Christian, board chairman for the Hall of Fame, says. "The induction ceremony being held in Hot Springs is a great way of spreading the word about this wonderful attraction that honors entertainers from all across our state who have achieved great things on the national and international stage." Joe joins the Arkansas Hall at the same time as late country duo the Wilburn Brothers, rockabilly figure Ronnie Hawkins, bluesman Sonny Boy Williamson and trumpeter Wayne Jackson, who played on numerous soul hits recorded in Memphis. Established in 1996, the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame has held six previous induction ceremonies. Among the honorees added during those events were Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Tracy Lawrence, Billy Bob Thornton, the Browns, Patsy Montana, K.T. Oslin, Ronnie Dunn, Collin Raye and Conway Twitty. That’s one of numerous boastful lines in Luke Bryan’s playful "Country Man," though there’s no hog-wrestling in the accompanying video. In fact, the closest he gets to that is dancing with a pig in his arms in front of a row of porta-potties. "He got heavy after about 15 minutes in the video," Luke told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "Then after he pooped all over me, I decided to sit him down a little bit. I squeezed the you know what out of him — [not really], I’m playing. If you look in the video — pay attention — but there’s a scene where I’m bending down in front of the porta-potty, cleaning up something, getting it out of the way, because we were going in and out of the porta — do you hear what I’m saying? We’re in and out of porta-potties. What an absurd video we’ve done." Absurd indeed. It features line dancing, air guitar, a treadmill workout and a cameo appearance by a video-playing Dierks Bentley. "Country Man" is ranked at No. 18 on the latest edition of GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown. On a more serious front, Luke takes part Wednesday night in a fundraiser at Nashville’s Bluebird Café to benefit the Miller Harris Asthma Camp for Kids. Among the other participants are Jake Owen, Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall, plus songwriters Jedd Hughes ("Stay With Me (Brass Bed)"), Doug Johnson ("Three Wooden Crosses") and Phillip White ("I’m Movin’ On"). Book Review August 31, 2007 -- It’s All About Him – Finding The Love of My Life, is a must read for all Alan Jackson fans, now Denise Jackson fans, as well as those who live by the adage "behind every good man stands a great woman" . Having been a longtime fan of Alan Jackson and his music, I have been equally impressed and admiring of he and his wife Denise’s ability to survive a very competitive, public, sometimes lest forgiving world of music and entertainment as a couple.
