Kenny Chesney Concert Details That Didn’t Make the Cut

Troy Gentry wore guyliner! Miranda Lambert played the sax! In a bra!* Lady Antebellum lost power! And on and on. If it was up to me, my Kenny Chesney concert review would’ve been 3,000 words long and would have included every last detail that filled my little notebook. But newspapers are a little too short on space to let me focus on the non-essentials. Here, though, I can blog about them to my heart’s content. Some of the highlights from the seven-hour show:

Kenny Chesney kissed a little girl who looked like she might’ve been suffering from cancer. He then quietly arranged to have her watch the rest of the show from the side of the stage. I think it’s safe to say that was an unscripted, heartfelt move on his part.

During Sugarland’s “Stay,” Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush went out to the end of the catwalk to do it alone. He played guitar but had a mandolin strapped to his back, just in case.

Everything Eddie Montgomery said made him sound like a preacher. And by the end of their set, I was a believer. When Troy Gentry (he really was wearing eye make-up, I swear) did his hillbilly stomp, he said “I think I done pulled something. Anybody got an icepack?” Funny stuff.

Lambert sounded better than ever. And looked like a million bucks. She was even wearing some kind of rosary bead necklace that I think she got here. And damn did her harmonica player light it up on “Kerosene.” Best Lambert moment, though, was watching her sit down on the very edge of stage to do “More Like Her.”

And if it’s possible to out-do Dwight Yoakam, Lady A did so with their sultry take on his “Fast as You.”

Not sure how or where she learned to play the sax, but it was a nice twist to see Lambert join Chesney on stage towards the end of his set. And when a fan threw a bra up on stage, and Chesney went to add it to his collection, Lambert grabbed it and put it on over her T-shirt. Makes me wanna be more like her.
