I almost missed Keith Urban in InStyle magazine. I mean, there was no press release saying, “Watch for Keith Urban in this month’s InStyle where he’ll dish all about Britney Spears.” Nothing. So to see him jumping out at me from the page about the American Music Awards was a shock. But there he was, answering the question they posed to Adam Lambert, Shakira and SoShy: “Which song could you dance to for the rest of your life?” Urban chose Britney Spears’ “3,” saying, “It has an unbelievable production and arrangement, and she sounds killer on it.” Not so sure I want to listen to one Britney Spears song for all of eternity, but if he’s dancing, I’d probably want to watch.
Right after that, I started getting bombarded with e-mails about how he and his wife, Nicole Kidman, had been seen singing together. Actually, according to Urban, what he and Nic were really doing was undertaking the comedic task of dismantling and destroying a perfectly good pop song. It was Men at Work’s “Down Under” during a tribute to fellow Aussie Simon Baker (The Mentalist) at the G’Day USA annual gala dinner in Los Angeles.
And just yesterday (Jan. 18), Urban showed up on The Ellen DeGeneres Show drawing pictures of his 18-month-old baby, Sunday Rose. “Her smile is actually much bigger than her face. She has beautiful big eyes,” he gushed. Then he said, “I’m a terrible drawer. I’m glad I can play guitar.” After DeGeneres informed him that Kevin Jonas had used one of Urban’s songs at his wedding, Urban took a guitar and launched into a solo mash-up of his “Only You Can Love Me This Way” and John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
