You have to wait until next month to hear Taylor Swift on John Mayer’s new song, “Half of My Heart.” But to whet your appetite, you can at least hear Mayer himself grooving on it in this old practice session. He explains that that he’s sharing “the end of the tune, just sort of melodically stating the chorus over and over, even though it’s not the chorus.” Then he says he can engineer it based off the DNA he comes up with at the end of the tune, whatever that means. I don’t need to hear much more than this rough cut to know that I’m going to love it. There’s no mention of Swift’s involvement in this video so it could be that it just has her vocals stacked with Mayer’s. Or a full-on duet. But I have a feeling it will be the latter since they sounded so good together last spring when Mayer joined Swift on stage at a Los Angeles gig to do his “Your Body Is a Wonderland” and her “White Horse.” Mayer’s new album, Battle Studies, will be released on Nov. 17.
